AUSTRALIAN NATIONHOOD.
ANGLICAN PRELATE'S PRAISE. Australian and N.Z. Cable ' Association. (Reed. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 4.
The Agent-General for Queensland, Mr. ! U. M. Hunter, presiding at a Queensland Anglican Church meeting, eulogised the broadmindedness and tolerance of the Archbishop of Brisbane, Dr. S. G. Donaldson. No Church in Queensland, he-said, had done its Christian- work more worthily than the Anglican. He advocated the extension of church work in the homes of the people and the streets to. counteract the Bolsheviks, who quoted the expulsion of the moneychangers from the temple as justifying the confiscation of property. He regretted that the war had undermined the people's regard for the rjghts of life and property. Dr. Donaldson . declared that the Queensland National Church was becoming independent of the Mother Church. Many dioceses were already fully staffed by- native-born Queenslandere. The term " Empire" was obsolete, and should be. superseded by the title " British Commonwealth." The qualites of independence, loyalty to principle, and sense of public duty were splendid material for nationhood. If ever he were in a tight place he would sooner depend on an Australian than any other man in the world.'
