GARDENERS' DISPUTE.

PARTIAL SETTLEMENT. The dispute filed by the nurserymen, gardeners, and landscape gardeners was further considered on Saturday by a Conciliation Council, under the presidency of the commissioner, Mr. T. Harle Giles. The following agreement was arrived at in relation to the wages of boys and youths. Under 17 years of age, 30s; 17-18 years, £2; 18-19, £2 10s;. 19-20, £3; over 20 years, minimum wage. Apprentices for a four-year term are to be paid as follows: —First year, 20s; second year, 30s; third year, 455; fourth year, 555.. Overtime is to be paid for at the rate of time and a-quarter for the first three hours, and time and a-half thereafter. Holidays are to be granted on Christmas Day, Boxing Hay, !New Year's Day, GOOS Friday, Easter Monday, Sovereign's birthday, and Labour Day. The usual Court's clause in relation to country work was agreed upon, providing for 5s a day extra for men on such work. The usual clauses relating to suburban work and under-rato workers were agreed upon. A St. John Ambulance first-aid compressed kit is to be kept in an accessible place wherever men are working. Employers are to give recognition to any worker appointed as a steward bj the men, and on application by the union's accredited representative no unreasonable obstacle shall be raised to prevent him interviewing the men on the works out of working hours or by arrangement with the emp'oyer. The employers agreed that the dispute should be dealt with at. the present sitting of the Arbitration Court. The terms of the award is to be from October 1. 1920, to January 22, 1922. The remaining clauses of the union's claim are to be considered .at a special meeting of the union, and the Conciliation Council will sit again on Wednesday afternoon. J
