POLICE APPOINTMENTS.

CHANGES IN AUCKLAND. PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS. [Ml TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A number of changes in the police force are announced, and among them are several affecting stations in the Auckland district. Senior-Sergeant E. Eales, of Napier, will go to Auckland, in succession to Senior-Sergeant J. McNamara, who has been transferred to Wellington, where he will resume charge of the training depot. Sergeant L. OHalloran, of Dannevirke, has been promoted to the rank of seniorsergeant, and will replace Senior-Sergeant Eales at Napier, and! Sergeant P. Harvey, now at Otanuhu, has been promoted to the rank of senior-sergeant, and will go to Dannevirke. Sergeant T. Hodgson, of Onehunga, has been transferred to Otahuhu, and will be succeeded by Sergeant E. Cruickshanks, of Wellington South. Freeman's Bay has been created a sergeant's district, and Sergeant J. Fitzgerald, of Temuka, will take charge of it The promotions of constables to the rank of sergeant, to fill the vacancies created by the changes, have not yet been announced.

The promotion of Sergeant P. Harvey, of Otahuhu, to the rank of senior-sergeant, and his transfer to Dannevirke, were mentioned at a sitting of the Otahnhu Police Court yesterday morning. Mr. L. P. Leary, on behalf of the Bar practising in the Court, asked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who presided, to enter a minute in the Court records expressing the appreciation of his fellow-practitioners in connection with the work of Sergeant Harvey and the assistance he had always rendered during the four years he had been stationed there. While regretting his transfer, they wished to congratulate him on his well-merited promotion.

The magistrate said it would give him srreat pleasure to comply with the request. He personally thanked Sergeant Harvey for the assistance he had been to the Court. While Sergeant Harvey had been in charge at Otahtihu he had done excellent work as clerk of the Court.
