FARES TO TAKAPUNA.
INCREASE IN STEAMER RATES. Numbers of Takapuna residents were unpleasantly surprised yesterday morning when, on tendering the usual 3s 6d for a weekly boat ticket, they discovered that a further ninepence was required to complete tho price. Those, who had not, expected tho increase had failed to read the notice posted on the boat announcing that the weekly return ticket had been, raised from 3s*6d to 4s 3d and one-trip return tickets from 8d to «9d. Tho increases do not affect season ticket holders, but, as these are exclusively Bayswater resident*, this does not apply to tho bulk of the daily travellers by the boat. Tho price of weekly tickets has now been increased four times since the service was first inaugurated, tho rates being first Is 6d a, week, then 2s 6d, then 3s, then 3s 6d, aoid now 46' 3d. In addition there was previously an annual ticket, at £4 17s, available for all residents. Some time ago, when tho company was refused permission by .the Borough Council to increase the tram fares, tlw annual concession wae confined to residents of Bayswater, who do not travel by tramcar, and the cost of transit to Takapuna. increased by raising tho boat fares. The Takapuna resident who previously secured a year's boat travelling for £4 17s now pays, through the medium of his 52 weekly tickets, an aggregate of £11 Is. ,
