BLOCKHOUSE BAY SITES.

Sir —Your account of the meeting which took 'p I3CO at Avdndale last Thursday re the leasing of camping sections at Blockhouse Bay, gives great prominence to the Road Boards side of the question, but does not mention the point of view of tho people'of Avondalo South, while the overwhelming majority which carried the resolution consisted very largely of the lad* of Avondale. who turned up in force, and were given votes notwithstanding protests to the contrary. Some of the views, of those who oppose tho measure are:— Fir«tlv that the board has absolutely no % ii«hYto dispossess a district of all or a portion of its public" domains in order to fease them for private purposes. ■» Tho board says that it is only a temporary measure," but already at least one ten years' lease has been granted, and although this particular leafe has since been cancelled this sort of thing la the thin j end of the wedge, and there is no know- j in where it may end. Already one house worth at least £250 has been erected. ! Secondly, one of the by-laws of the district expressly states that no dwelling shall be erected in the district on a site 'f less than one-quarter of art acre, and that all plans of proposed buildings must r> 3 submitted, to the board for its approval. .In tho case of these sections, both these provisions are waived.- Consequently | all over the once beautiful Domain, ugly ! shacks are ..being built on sections 50 by! 50. » proper Sanitary arranccments • exist, much of live • drainage finding its way into the stream from which many people tret their drinking water. If the board is allowed to complete its policy and let 150 more of these sect : ons (at present there are about fifty), there is no doubt that a very exeat menace to public health in the district'will he caused. Is | it env wonder that the residents of Avon- I 'dale South in whose district the Domain j is situated, are protesting against such.a state of aSairs. A Resident.
