IMMIGRANTS' COMPLAINTS.

STATEMENT BY MR. ' MASSET. Immigrants who are approved by the High Commissioner have all been met on arrival in New Zealand, according to a statement made in Wellington by the Primo Minister this week. .Mr. Massey said that those people coming out under the British Government scheme ,for exservice men and their families were ret go closely watched by the High Commissioner's Office, and it might be that some of these had landed without having anything done for them. But the Government would do all it could to find employment for these people. His information was that most of them did not want to settle in cities, so that their coming would not affect the housine problem, but many of them appeared to have ha-d littlo or no experience of country life, and for this reason were a little difficult to p.aco in employment at onco. The story that some people had landed without being met by an immigration officer might, have arisen from the fact that a number of people had come'via Australia, and so nad arrived hero Unknown to the New Zea land authorities. Mr. Massey thought it might be possible to arrange that immigrants to be assisted by the Government should bo required to obtain a " characI ter" to the satisfaction of the High Commissioner. ■
