DEVONPORT.
The Devonport Borough Council met last evjning, there boins rffosent: The Mayor, Mr. H. S. W. King, and Messrs. J. J. Fletcher, W. Perry-Taylor, J. Mays, 8. W. Luxford, W. A. I'ilkington, G. V, Penrce, R. A. Spinley, T. Palmer, and J. Woodall.
Official intimation that a new te'ephone exchange was to be erected in Clarence Street, Devon port, was received.from the Postal Department. . ' .The Mayor wpored that the Telegraph engineer had promised to favourably consider the council's request that street telephone boxes be installed in Deronnort. In regard to the proposal that a national scheme should be instituted for the payment of a bonus to heads of families proportionate to the number of children, a letter was received from tho Prime Minister, Mr. W. P. Masfey. to the effect that the question a) to whether a Bill should be introduced to give effect to the scheme was under consideration by the Cabinet. Mr. A. Harris, M.Pv, wrote that he was in complete accord with the suggestion. Sitting as the Rangitoto Island Domain Board, it was decided to withdraw the permit for the free use of the boy scouts' camp shed on the island, owing to the building being used for private occupation, Ana to charge a rental of £4 per annum, as in other cases. TAKAPUNA. The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, there being, present; —The Major, Mr. W. Blomfield, Messrs. T. B. Arthur. I W. Williamson, F. C. Buddie, R. H. 8. Bias, A. Fulljames, G. Creamer and R. E. Cunningham. Some discussion took place regarding the action of a resident in installing a septio tank, which, it was stated. 1 was liable to drain into the lake, without the council's permission. The matter was referred to tho Finance and Legal Committee. A demand for £1297 as the council's contribution to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for the current year was received from tho latter body. The Mayor said that Takapuna was the ninth in order of rating of the 33 contributing bodies, being iust behind Devonport. A _ letter was received from Mr. W. J. Napier offering to sell to the council at a reasonable price an area of land known as Napier Point for the purpose of a nark And athletic ground. The Mayor remarked that he thought the land would be a valuable asset to the borough. It was resolved to inspect the land next week.
