LOCAL BODIES' LABOURERS.
SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTE. The Auckland local bodies' labourers' dispute was considered by a conciliation council yesterday. The conciliation commisioner, Mr, P. Hally, presided. Messrs. G. Baildon, H. R. McKenzie, and H. S. W. King acted as assessors for the employers, with Mr. S. E. Wright as advocate, and Messrs. J. D. Robertson, J.H. Eayers and; 1). Clews were assessors for the employees. A full settlement was arrived at. Hours of work were fixed at 47, as previously, and an all-round increase of weges was granted. Workers on hourly rates will now receive from Is 7d to Is 9d an hour, and those on daily wages from 1& 8d to 14s 2d. In addition: to these rates the workers will receive a bonus of 3d an hour. The term of the award is for two years, from June 1. Reporting to the Devonport Borough Council last evening on the result of tho conciliation proceedings, the Mayor, Mr. H. 8. W. King, Mid a tribute to*tho fair , minded way in which the matter was dealt with by the representatives of the men. A give-and-take policy had been adopted throughout the discussion.
