INFLUENZA CASES.
THE CANTERBURY OUTBREAK. DISEASE STILL SPREADING. [BY telegrapb.— PBKSS ASSOCIATION".] CHRISTCHITRCH. Tuesday. During the 24 hours ending at noon today 114 fresh notifications of influenza were received by the Public Health Department in Christchurch. These notifi. cations cover the whole of the Canterbury and Westland district, and include 61 cases in North Canterbury, 48 in South Canterbury, and five in Ashburton, all mild. The total number reported over the whole district for the preceding 24 hours was 137, so that if these figures can be accepted at setting out the correct position the epidemic is not spreading at an alarming rate. At the some time two more schools in the city were closed today. A great many cases of an exceedingly mild though infectious type are never reported to the authorities. INCREASE IN DUNEDIN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION^ DUNEDIN. Tuesday. Influenza is slightly on the increase, but the cases reported are not of a malignant type. Notifications for the district of Otago and Southland for the week ended yesterday total 158 cases. In Dunedin Hospital the number of influenza patients is 12.
