FOOCHOW INCIDENT
«> CHINA DEMANDS INDEMNITY. JAPAN'S COUNTER CHARGES. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Dec. 4. The Pekin correspondent of the New York Times says that China has sent a Note to Japan demanding an indemnity for the Chinese killed in the disturbances at Foochow, caused by the landing of Japanese marines, and also the removal of the Japanese Consul. Japan, in reply to the Chinese Note, stated that the anti-Japanese disturbances in China were largely due to the laxity of official control of the population, and suggested that the Foochow incident should be investigated by a joint commission.
