The native fisheries case, in which . several Maoris claimed £5000 damages against a number of Europeans in connection with the draining of the Repongaere Lake was called at the Supreme Court today. Mr. Justice Chapman said he had communicated with the Chief Justice regarding native jurors conversing with interested parties. He cast no reflection on the Maori jurors, who hf.d been indiscreet in listening to harangues. He would have to dis- ] charge the jury, and, if necessary, order a new trial. The question of title which was raised. would be referred to chambers.
