THE NEED FOB RAIN.
♦ POSITION IN THE NORTH. MILK PRODUCTION SUFFERS. [BY. TELEGRAPH—OWN correspondent^ WHANGAEEI, Monday. The continuous spell of dry weather is causing anxiety. Travelling through from the north -yesterday it was noticed that the poorer grasses were brown and-scanty. The richer pastures are holding their own, but are bound to suffer unless rain falls. In the Hokianga district and bush country the effects of the dry weather are not so marked. Sheep and lambs looked well, and inquiry showed that the dry spell had proved generally favourable to flocks, but other stock are beginning to suffer and dairy factories report a general decrease in butter-fat compared with the same month in recent years. Sales of stock also reflect the misgiving induced by the lack of rain, prices being unusually low.
