As a result of the continued dry weather log fires have occurred in the Kaimai district between Tauranga and Matamata. Much damage to fences and grass has been done and several settlers have been compelled to take precautionary measures to save their buildings. Rain is greatly needed in order to freshen up the pastures and promote the growth of maize and other crops.
