The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that it is understood that the United States has informed Britain that the Lan-sing-Ishii agreement preserves the principles of equality of commercial and industrial opportunity in the Far East, despite Japan's contention that the agreement < recognises the priority of Japan's economic and industrial rights in the Orient. The United States therefore contends that it cannot recognise Japan's reservation of South Manchuria and Eastern and Inner Mongolia under the proposed Chinese consortium.
