CARPENTERS' DEMANDS.
FIVE DAYS' WORK A WEEK, EMPLOYEES REFUSE OFFER. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] DtTNEDIN, Thursday. The carpenters dispute came before a Conciliation Council to-day, but the proceedings were without result. The men's demands included a minimum of £4 15s a five-day week of 40 hours, with no Saturday work. The employers would not agree to a variation of the terms of the existing award, but offered an increase of a penny j)er hour in the bonus, making the pay Is Bjd an hour, plus the 3£d bonus. The union declined to accept this offer.
