BETTING RAID SEQUEL.

GISBORNE PROSECUTIONS. "A GILBERTIAN POSITION." [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE, Thursday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Robert Roland Kidson and Francis William Erickson were charged before Mr. Marion, S.M., that, being the occupiers of a grocery store, they did keep and use such premises as a common gaming house. Kidson was further charged with frequenting Gladstone Road, a public place, for the purpose of betting. The charges were laid as the result of a police raid. Each accused was fined £25, and on the second charge Kidson was fined £1. The magistrate said it had been stated by a detective that the telegraph office was used for betting transactions. This was well known, and the Government did nothing to see that the law was properly carried out. The position was Gilbertian.
