THE FLORAL FETE.

ATTRACTIONS AT ELLERSLIE. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE AI'JfJSAL. The resumption of floral fetes at Ellerslie revives recollections of delightfully picturesque displays of the kind held on the racecourse in bygone years. The troubled period of the war has interruptted the succession of gala occasions on which the gardens of Auckland and its suburbs were wont to pour forth their floral splendours in all forms of elaborate and Artistic decoration. Tomorrow, however, the event that is traditionally the spectacular feature of Auckland's summer months will be reinstated in a fete in aid of the funds of the' St. John Ambulance Association. It is foreshadowed that the floral exhibits will be on a scale beyond even those erf earlier years, comprising competitive entries, which range ijom decorated motors to decorated scooters, and from parasols to invalid's chairs, giving wide scope fur originality of design and kaleidoscopic variety of spectacle. In ere is also to be a baby show, for which record entries have been received. Among the amusements arranged for ate a steeplechase and a jumping competition, directed by the Takuranga Hunt Club, and two flat-racing events in which a number of well-known jockeys will ride. A great variety of side-shows also appeal'upon the programme. One of the most attractive series of exhibitions will be the maypole dances, in which 130 little girls will dance around five maypoles simultaneously. Several well-known dancers will also give exhibitions of fancy dancing. Lunch and alternoon tea will be provided on the grounds, whilst strawberries and cream and light refreshments will he on sale at "canvas-town," near *he Derby stand. Special trams will run to and from Remera Post Office during the day. The valuable service of the Ambulance Association to the community in the right against the epidemic of last year will be fresh in the public memory. Apart from, the certainty of an enjoyable afternoon in the fresh air, the opportunity for recognising the work of the association is (..lie that will doubtless be readily seized by the public.
