LIGHT RAILWAYS.
HAMILTON TO WEST COAST. DISCUSSION OF PROPOSALS. [Ft TELEGRAPH- OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. The campaign hi favour of a light railway being constructed from Hamilton to Raglan and Kawhia, which has x been initiated by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, was favourably launched tonight, when a meeting was held in the Town Hall. Mr. (I. I'arr, president ot the chamber, presided, and there was a, good attendance, including representatives of all local bodies interested in the scheme. Captains H. D. Dansey, D. Bruce, and R. Worley, light railway officers, who had considerable experience in France and Belgium, gave addresses dealing with their experience 'A light railways at the front, and expressed the opinion that similar lines would prove of great advantage to the back-blocks of New Zealand. On Saturday a large party will leaveby motor-car for Raglan, and inspect the route of the proposed line on the way. In the evening a meeting will be: hel* at Raglan, and on Sunday the party will ride through the Moerangi block, which it is suggested the proposed line would tap for timber, and which the Government is being asked I<> open for settlement by returned soldiers, and thence on to Kawhia, where a further meeting will be held on Monday. The country districts are greatly interested in the proposal to bring them into closer touch with Hamilton, and it is expected that the meetings at Raglan and Kawhia will be largely attended.
