TROUT AND GAME BIRDS.
COMPLAINTS OF DESTRUCTION. Representations regarding the killing of trout and game birds in certain - country districts have been made by the Auckland Acclimatisation ' Society to the provincial executive of the Farmers' Union, It is alleged it is the practice of certain motorists to enclose calcium carbide in eoda-water bottles apd throw them into trout streams, with the result that an explosion occurs and kills the trout in the vicinity. It is stated that not only are fish killed by the explosion, but that others are poisoned through the ~- stream being polluted by the carbide. The suggestion is made that any member of the union who is discovered indulging in the practice should be expelled from the union. The society is also offering £10 reward for evidence that will lead to the conviction of offenders. The practice .of farmers laying phosphorised pollard to poison rabbits is also objected to by the . society, and it requests the union to use its influence .to induce farmers to cease from using* pollard poison, as it results in" the destruction) ■ of pheasants. ,' '*..'"
