REPATRIATING SOLDIERS.
AUCKLAND BOARD'S WORK. BUSINESSES AND TRAINING. The Auckland District Reparation Beard held two meetings this week, the deputy-chairman, Mr. M. M. McCal'um, presiding. A total of 121 applications for business and furniture loans were considered. Of the business applications 25 cf the larger amounts were recommended, an amount of £6;i50 being involved. lea others and 47 furmtuie loans tola ling £2571 were granted. A total of 21 v.era refused. In the training section three men who had completed their training weie paid the retained portion off tneir subsidy. Three appl,cants were granted tools of trade, thiee were granted books, fees. en., wh.le studying at schools and coikges. 22 undergoing training in workshops aid fm • tones were granted sub? d es, and 12 received the same aid while completing their apprenticeships. UNEMPLOYMENT REDUCED. LOWEST NUMBER OX RECORD. A further reduction in the number or returned so'd : ers seeking work is reported by the District Repatriation Board. At the beginning of the week 1 74 names were on the register. During the week 46 new applications were made, and 45 men were placed in work. The names c f eight others who had failed to reply to offers or to report were struck off, the result being that the register now bears 69 naiies, the lowest number yet recorded. The hoard's active policy in providing training for disabled men has been an important factor in contributing to the present satisfactory position.
