ANAESTHETIC DEATH-RATE.
THE AUCKLAND HOSPITAL,
SEVEN ONLY IN THREE YEARS.
There have been only seven deaths under anaesthetics at the Auckland Hospital during operations in the period from September 1, 1916, to August 31, 1919, our- of a total of 9989 operations performed during that time. There were 2017 major and 760 minor operations performed at the institution from September 1, 1916, to August 31, 1917; 2668 major and 1035 minor operations from September 1, 1917, to August 31, 1918; and 2576 major and 933 minor operation*, from September 1, 1918, to August 31, 1919. One death under anaesthetic was recorded in 1917, one in 1918, and one each in March, May, and July of this year, and two in August. These figures were given in a report presented by Dr. C. E. Maguire, medical superintendent, at the meeting of the Hospital Board last evening.
