PIGEON FLYING.
RAGE FROM TE AWAMUTU
The Auckland Flyinsr Club's third old-bird race of the season was flown on Saturday from Te Awamutu. an air-line distance of approximately 83 miles 59yds to the winner's loft. The birds, 104 in number, were liberated by the stationmaster at 1.33 p.m., in fine weather, and being favoured by a strong south-easterly wind, put up a fair velocity. The first bird to be timed in after a close finish was Mr. K. Gilbert's The Nut, which did the distance in 2h Bmin 155., This bird is from the old Belgian —Grooter strains. The following are the velocities of the first six birds: E. Gilbert's The Nut. 1139 yds. 1: N. J. Waddell's At Last. 1130 yds. 2; W. Cammell's Lady Ann. 1124.3yd5. 3 A. Alexander's Advance. 1124.1yd5, 4; W. H. Billing's Water Lily, 1122 yds. 5: F. Coster's, jun.. Lucky Lady. 1121 yds. 6. Next Saturday's race will be from Te Kuiti.
