THE TURF IN ENGLAND. ; THE KING'S HORSES WIN. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Oct. 17. At the Newmarket meeting horses carrying the King's colours won three races. The Middle Park Plate (six furlongs) resuited in a victory for Major McCalmont's colt Tetratema (by the Tetrarch). Southern finished second, and Light-hearted third. There were five starters, and Tetratema, who ruled a strong odds-on favourite, won by six lengths. Tetratema was ridden by the ex-Australian jockey, J. Carslake. THE WELLINGTON MEETING. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORBKSPONDENT. ] ' CHKISTCHTJRCH. Saturday. ! Sir George Clifford's team for the Wellington meeting will be limited to two horses. The first of these is Acquittal, a useful three-year-old: the other is Moorfowl, a well-grown two-year-old filly by Autumnus Kirriemuir, and a rare good galloper. She has not had a race yet. but she may be expected to turn out a big winner before the end of the season. Percy Mason will take two horses to TrentJbam to strengthen the team his father is bringing back from Sydney. They are both three-year-olds, the Australian-bred Falstaff being a very likely winner. The other is Lovelock, who does not impress at present. F. D. Jones' team for Trentham will consist of Paraoa. who has put on condition lately, and Burransong. who has not done much fast work since he came here from Southland.

Murray Hobbs will journey to Wellington with lortnx and Flight Commander. The first-named is a handsome daughter of Martian from the New Zealand Cup winner TortulJ*. and th.« manner in which she won at Ashburton this week suggests that she will again be seen to advantage at an early date.

BACK FROM AUSTRALIA.

The racehorses Spanner, Tuanaha. and Golden Bubble, members •of G. Jones' team, who competed unsticcessfully in Australia recently, arrived back in Auckland yesterday by the Moeraki, and are at present located at W. Mobberley's stables, Ellerslie. awaiting despatch to Hawke's Bay. By the same boat, Messrs. Gleeson ana<l Thorpe's two-year old, Dunedin. who claims engagement in the A. R. C. Welcome Stik«s next month, also arrived. Horsemen who returned to the Dominion by the Moeraki were B. Deeley. K. Tapp and J. Deerey.
