AUCKLAND SAVAGE CLUB.

CLOSING "KOEERO" OF SEASON.

The Auckland Savage Club's annual "Te Korero Wahiue," with which the club's 32nd season was brought to an end, was held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday evening. There were about 600 persons present, including a large number of the lady friends of the Savages, in whose honour the closing korero is always held. Among the visitors were a number of members of kindred clubs. The proceedings opened with the entry and installation of the presiding savage, Mr. W. G. Fletcher, which was inducted with due ceremony by the " heketari," Mr. F. J. Whittaker. The hall was tastefully decorated, and the RaEgitira and his attendant procession of fierce looking, but withal, inoffensive braves, were picturesquely attired in Maori giirb and war paint. An excellent programme, which was in keeping with the club's high standard, was presented. The first part contained selections by the orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr. C. Muston, an -address of welcome by the Ilangitira, vocal quartettes by the Lyric Four, a musical medley number by Mr. T. T. Garland, a coster sketch by Mr. A. McEhvain, songs by | Messrs. A. Ripley and J. Ryan, an Irish- i Maori wit and amour sketch by Mr. F. J. Whittaker, a:i eccentric vocal " trio" —soprano, tenor and —by Mr. J. Smithson, and a character song and chorus by Mr. J. W. Atkinson and the choir. The eecond portion of the entertainment comprised a one-act musical "tragedy," entitled, " The Return of the Vikings," by the members of the choir, led by Mr. A. Bartley. This consisted of a Parliamentary burlesque, representing a welcome by i the " House" to the leaders of the i National Government on their return from | the Peace Conference. The characters 1 represented all sorts and. conditions of politicians, and the presentation was responsible for considerable mirth. RefreshI ments were supplied dsring the interval.
