ELECTRIC LIGHTING.
PROPOSAL FOR FRANKLIN. CONFERENCE FAVOURS SCHEME. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] rrKEKOHE, Friday. A well-attended meeting of delegates of various organisations interested in the proposed Franklin electric lifting schema was held in the Borough Council Ofica yesterday. The Mayor, Mr. C K. Li-.wrie, presided, and 21 delegates were present. A comprehensive report, by Mr. A. Jdker, consulting electrical "eng neer, was submitted. The eeheine outlined m the report embraced the following districts :— Puni. Paturnahoe, Glep.brook, Waiuku, Waipipi, Apua, Akaaka, Buck'and. Tuakau, Pukekohe East, Bombay. Ram*raroa, Papakura. and Pukekohe. Two separ.it« schemes were submitted, one at an estimate ! cost of £66.434, and the other, an alternative scheme, at £105.325. Both proposals were fully considered, and after deliberation it was'rtsoii cJ ih;.C the meeting approves of th proposal to provide electric light for the district, and pledges itself to do all ; n its power to further the same. A subcommittee of nine, with power to add to its number, was elected to put the scheme before the ratepayers. The total mileage of the mains was stated in the report to total 144 miles 35 chains. It is proposed to ir.st.it a central station at Pukekohe. Mr. Walker also submitted a report on the extensions required in the Puiekche Borough, at an estimated cost of £21.235. This report will be considered at a special meeting of the council.
