FATAL DRINK OF STOUT.
DEATH OF A LABOURER. ARSENIC IN THE BOTTLE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DARGAVILLE, Friday. The adjourned inquest concerning tha death of John Brown, a labourer, who died at the Kaipara Hospital on Saturday, August 23, following the drinking of a cup of stout, was held to-day. The analyst's report disclosed the presence of arsenic in the stoat left in the bottle. A verdict was returned that deceased died from arsenic poison, accidentally taken, contained in a bottle of stout, there being no evidence to show how the poison got into the bottle. Evidence was given previously by twr» witnesses showing that on August 15 they obtained some bottles of ale and stout and! went to Ruawai. Brown met them, and all three adjourned to his shanty. Drinks followed, the ale bi : in : disposed of first. The stout was then opened, and deceased drank the first cup. The others noticed! something wrong with the stent. Brown became ill after a few hours. He received medical attention, but became worse, and was removed to the Kaipara Hospital, where he died on August 23.
