HIGH COMMISSIONED
TERM OF APPOINTMENT. QUESTION OF EXTENSION.. NO REPLY YET RECEIVED. [BY TELEGRAPH. — SPECIAL REPQBTEB J WELLINGTON. Friday. The position of the High Commissioner was again the subject of inquiry bv Si* Joseph Ward, Leader of the Opposition, in a question addressed to the Prima Minister in the House of Representatives this afternoon. He asked whether an-? reply had been received from Sir Thomas Mackenzie regarding the extension of his term of appointment to February. Mr. Massey paid ho had received no reply yet from the High Commissioner He added that he had looked into the question asked a few days previously as to the right of the High Commissioner to be enrolled as an elector immediately on his return to New Zealand. Legislation would be necessary to enable him to ha enrolled if he desired this lor any reason. Sir Joseph Ward asked a further question about the term of appointment speaking of the four months from O. to. ber 25 to February 25, as a further extension of the term. Mr. Massey said that this was? in the nature of notice required under the law. Sir Joseph Ward then asked whether any conditions had been imposed on Sir Thomas Mackenzie in connection with tha matter. He was proceeding to elaborate this question when the Prime Minister fee to reply. Sir J'seph Ward : Surely I have th« right to ask a question Mr. Massey (emp*.aticailyl : Yes, and I have the right- t' reply. No conditions whatsoever have been imposed on tha High Commissioner in this . latter. Sir Joseph Ward : Thank you. That was all I wished to kr."w.
