MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
THE WAIRAU FATALITY. ACCUSED SENT FOE TRIAL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM, Friday. On a charge of manslaughter arising from the death of George O'Leary at the Wairau Valley Hotel on Saturday evening last, Charles Albert Gasse, licenses of the Wairau Valley Hotel, appeared to-day in the Magistrate's Court. Evidence was given similar to that given at the coronial inquiry. No new facts were adduced by the prosecution. The police put in a statement made by the accused, wherein he said the deceased called him an objectionable name. Accused struck him. Deceased took off his coat and struck at accused, who struck back. Deceased fell, striking his head on a form. He never regained consciousness. Accused was committed for trial. He reserved his defence. Bail was allowed.
