MINING NEWS.
TALISMAN. LOW LEVEL DEVELOPMENT. The supervisor of the Talisman Consolidated mine reports that No. 18 winze from No. 15 level is now down 17ft, the reef being wider than the workings. The band of high-grade ore on the western aide of the lode continues to the present bottom of the winze. For the last Bft the vein has flattened considerably, and the western side of the winze is now being shot out so as to get into touch with the bftngingwall. One firing has not disclosed the wall, but the next round of shots should find it. As soon as the hangingwall is in sight sin-Ling will be resumed. MINING AT REEFTON. SIGNS OF A REVIVAL. There are reported to be signs of a revival in old quartz mining at Reef ton. Recently the Big River Mining Syndicate located a promising body of ore in its property, sft wide, and carrying cold. The old Ulster mine has been acquired by a company styled the Ready Bullion Mines, Ltd., which has commenced operations. Encouraging returns have been obtained from this mine in the past. The development of the Keep-it-Dark and Boatman's mines is also being vigorously prosecuted. Owing to .the increased activity in the town there is stated to be a shortage of housing accommodation.
