AMERICAN STEEL STRIKE

SENATE COMMITTEE'S INQUIRY

TRUST METHODS ATTACKED.

CRIMES AGAINST WORKERS. By Teleerafth— Association—Copyright. (Received 10 p.m.) A. and N.Z. NEW YORK, Sept. 24. Mr. Foster, the secretary of the Steel Workers' Union, asserts that 347,000 workers are on strike. Although the steel employers dispute Mr. Foster's figures, they admit that conditions everywhere are serious, and that the steel industry has entered upon a critical period. Two strikers were stabbed in a riot at Cleveland.

Mr. Samuel Gompers, President of the American Federation of Labour, giving evidence before the InterState Commerce Committee of the Senate, asserted that the United States Steel Corporation was guilty of serious crimes against the workers, who had no choice but to strike, since the chairman of the corporation, Mr. E. H. Gary, would not give them a hearing.
