THE NEW ZEALAND GIRL.
Sir,—ln reply to the letter of " Delilah,"' I should like to correct the erroneous impression that the article was intended to level a shaft at any one clas* or type of either party discussed. It is merely a striking difference that becomes at ones apparent to the most casual observer. The trait m Colonial and English characters is very marked, and is as noticeable in peace time, as under war conditions. In fact a traveller recently stated it, amoral** almost to a national characteristic. As for personal impression*, they are gathered from a diversity of types, and corroborated by men who moved in widelydifferent circles of society. Again, the mental ability has nothing whatever to do with interestthe theme of the article. A girl may be possessed of a high mentality, and vet not display interest m affairs external to her own little circle. On the other hand a less intelligent .;irl may be a.n interesting companion by reason of her whole hearted interest md eagerness to learn and discus.* new topics. I dealt with the average girl. There are many exceptions. The -.iil wl om the cap does not fit is fortunate enough t«' be above the average. Gunner.
