THE WAIHOU BRIDGE.
Sir,—From a report of the recent conference of Thames County and Borough Councils it would appear that most of the members of our lota: government soared away from the main objective. I should say thai the main purpose of the Waihou Bridge is to give the Hauraki Plains the most practicable access to its natural port, Thames. If such is the case, then the bridge should bo as near to the river mouth as is practicable or even possible. As has been mentioned at the conference, there is no doubt that there will be more than one Waihoit Bridge, but there is no doubt also that there will be one more important than all others, which will carry a Thames-Pokeno railway, off which will run the railways in the near future necessary, north and south—through the plains between the rivers and between the Piakr. River and the western highland. Being a county ratepayer. I think that such a project a = the bridge warrants the setting up of .t, commission for the purpose of deciding matters of special consideration in the selection of a site and is worthy of the, best engineering advice obtainable in the actual selection, having special regard to the decisions of the commission.
