♦ CAMPAIGN FOR PROTECTION. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Sept. 24. Recently through the columns of the Sydney Morning Herald a great outcry was raised against what was alleged to be wanton destruction of penguins on Macquarie Island for their oil. The Premier of Tasmania, to which State the island belongs, now states that it has been decided not to renew the lease of the island, which expired in August, to Captain Hatch.
