DECISION WITH AMERICA.

PRESIDENT WARNS SENATE.

SERVING GERMANY'S PURPOSE

By Teleeraph-Press Association—Copyright (Received 11.30 p.m.) A. and K.Z. NEW YORK, Sept. 24. Speaking at Salt Lake City, Mr. Wilson said that the reservations to the Versailles Treaty proposed by the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate would force the treaty back to the Peace Conference. The proposed amendment of Article 10 of the League of Nations Covenant would nullify American participation in the league, and destroy the treaty. Any reopening of the treaty would reopen the entire question of peace. Americans did not. desire this. At Ogden, in Utah State, Mr. Wilson said that 80 per cent, of the people of the United States were in favour of »the League, of Nations. Elements of the population which formerly tended towards disloyalty were opposing the covenant. '' We are serving Germany's purpose," said the President, " if the league is not adopted, because we shall be permanently dissociated from the nations with which we have co-oper-ated in defeating Germany. Some critics of the league are looking backward. That is why they are stumbling. Their blood runs' cold with fear that someone will attempt to defraud the United States, but no one is attempting to defraud the United States.
