PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY.

WANGANUI. Wednesday. The weather promises to be fine for the opening day of the Wanganui Jockey Club's meeting.

&ix are expected to start in the Guineas, Hebaua (K. Beed), Warpiane IA. Oliver), Affectation (K. Bagby), Motuihi (A. Heed), Rose Queen (P. Hayner) and Crenides IK. Xoung). A splendid race is anticipated V\axpia,ne has been showing signs ol lameness alter some gallops, but now appears all right, and will probably be favourite. Affectation, very fit, will have many supporters. Crenides is coming into favour, •Jja is much fancied by his connections, lhe race is regarded as being very open. Ermine will probably be started in the Flying. She has been doing excellent track work. Kipling and Jutland are also very fit.

Yankee Jack and Combustion are both in good form and nicely weighted in the ; Okehu Hurdles. Khartoum is galloping and jumping in improved style, and should give a good display. In the Hack Steeples Nefische is also fencing very well. Of the 10 acceptors in the Spring Handicap the prospects of Zola, All Over, and Client are most discussed. Zola was never fitter, and All Over looks remarkably well. Client is galloping attractively. Nobleman looks well, but will probably be all the better for a race or two. Seasprite and Wax Star, in the Putiki Hack, and Rose Wreath and Ruddy, in the Durie Hack, have been pleasing by their track work. WANGANUI TRAINING NOTES. The desirability of securing a racecourse of their own has been receiving -the attention of the Waikato Trotting Club, and at a meeting of the committee during the present week a sub-committee was set up to consider the matter, and to inspect suitable properties, with a view to the purchase of the necessary land. The question of stake money at the annual race meeting, which is fixed for January 10, has been dealt with, and the sum of £1250 is to be given in stakes.
