• i" *^ w hol» community is suffering by the " go-slow methods of the miners and the arbitrary holding up of steamers by the wharf labourers, and as to-day Government is afraid to step into the breach, we should prepare for the coming election and make a demand of any candidate that he will support a Bill to make it illegal for any foreigner to be employed either on the wharf or in the mines. While there are some extremists among men of our own country, still, take them as a whole, they are generally amenable to reason. After passing through the nightmare of this horrible war, we simply tempt disaster in future if we allow unpatriotic men to work in such vulnerable positions as mines and the wb »rf. S. L, P. RIMMEB.
