LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
TWO BALLOTS THIS WEEK.
Two ballots for land which has been opened for soldier settlement will be held in Auckland this week. The first ballot, for 31 sections of the Remuera Estate, Bay of Islands, will take place this afternoon, the 40 applicants having been examined by the North Auckland Land Board yesterday. The second ballot, for 13 sections of the Mangateparu settlement, near Morrinsville, and seven sections of the Maketu settlement, in the Rangitaiki swamp, will be held to-mor-row. There are 171 individual applicants, all of whom have applied for more than one section. The commissioner of the Auckland land district, Mr. H. M. Skeet, and Mr R. B.»ddv, a member of the" Auckland Land Hoard, examined 40 of the men at Morrinsville on Tuesday, and the board will examine the remainder today.
The Lands Department is also opening two sections of the Te Kuta Rlock and six sections of the Beattie settlement i n Hawke's Bay. this month. These sections with the Remuera, Mangateparu and Maketu settlements, made a total of 17,780 acres.
