SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTE. I • ! DOMINION RATES FIXED. AWARD TO BE APPLIED FOR [Bt TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. , A complete agreement on the points in dispute between the sheep-owners and I shearers was arrived at to-day,- and steps ; are to be taken to make the agreement a Dominion award. The . matter was heard before the conciliation commissioner, Mr. W. Newton. After an agreement was reached on the question of pay for shed hands, there was considerable discussion op the pay of cooks. Subsequently this was settled, and the agreed rates will apply to the whole Dominion. The folic wing are the new rates of pay Shearers, £1 10s per 100, with rations, the same rate to apply to shearing lambs; _ if shearers find their own food an additional 4s per 100 sheep is to be paid; the rates for stud sheep are to be settled by agreement with employers; hogget rams, rate and a-half, and other rams double rates. Shed hands and pressors, by the week £3 10a, by the hour 1 2s. Wool rollers and all other shed hands, £3 5s per week, or Is" lOd per hour. Youths, over 16 and under 18 years of age, £2 10s a week, or Is 6d an hour. Cooks, £4 a week for 12 men or under; over 12 men, wages will be fixed by agreement between employer and cook, but he shall not receive less than the minimum of £4. •When the conference had agreed to the above rates, Mr. Grayndler expressed the desire that a clause relating to dagging be included in the agreement. He considered the shearers should receive additional rates for dagging. Mr. A. A. McLeod objected to the'melusion of the clause, and was supported by other sheep-owners present. After considerable discussion the shearers' representatirts decided to waive the question, but held it was contentious matter, and something wonld ultimately have to be done in the matter. The representatives than agreed to sign the agreement, which comes into operation immediately, and will be dated September 1, 1910. The agreement will remain in operation till February 28 1921. ' ' A resolution was carried asking the Arbitration Court to make it a Dominion award.
