SUPPLIES OF SUGAR.
FIVE WEEKS' NORMAL NEEDS. FULFILMENT OF ORDERS. NO IMMEDIATE RESTRICTION. . The Colonial Sugjtfr Refining Company has 1 sufficient sugar in sight to -supply normal demands for five weeks. It was reported yesterday that the company had cancelled orders, and was declining to accept new ones, ; but the manager, Mr W. J. W. Philson, states that this is not correct. Normal supplies will be delivered until stocks come to an end.
'' The company landed last week 2000 jjgtfs of the raw product by the Paloona, aSid the Attfa.is dueswfth 2000 tons more. ■pi a fortnight the Paloona will be back Another 2000 tone. These cargoes represent about five weeks' supply. The Fiona's cargo of 4500 tons has been lost to New Zealand, the vessel, owing to the waterside worker* refusing to handle the cargo, on account of ..the crew containing non-unionists, having sailed to discharge her cargo in Sydney. It \ie therefore probab'.e that she cannot return with -a cargo for six weeks. It is understood that most merchants have no Stocks of sugar on hand, but it seems probable that with the supplies in sight t there will be no need to restrict supplies for some time, if at all.
