NEW TRAINING SHIP.
CAPTAIN HOOPER'S MISSION. [BY TELEGRAPH.SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. The question whether the Prime Minister during his recent visit to England had taken steps to obtain a training ship of a more up-to-date type th'±n the Amokura, asked in the House of Representatives by Mr W. T. Jennings (Taumarunui), elicited a statement from Mr. Massey explanatory of what had been done. Mr. Massey said that a training ship was to be secured. On his first visit to the Admiralty he asked the then First Lord whether it 'ould be possible to obtain such a vessel. The reply wa-s "most certainly." It being only a matter of choosing a ship, a cablegram to that effect was sent to the Acting-Minister for Marine, and Captain Hooper, commanding officer of the Amokura. was despatched to Encrland to select the type of vessel most suitable for the purpose. No doubt he would choose the best type of ship that could be obtained.
