NEW SOUTH WALES BUDGET
! NO NEW TAXATION. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Sept. 4. In the House of Assembly the Treasurer, Mr. W. A. Holman, delivering his Budget speech, stated that the 1918-19 receipts totaled £23,507,000, and the expenditure £23,292,000, the surplus being £215,000. The expenditure incurred, in connection with the influenza epidemic totalled £219,000. The seamen's and wharf labourers' strikes represented a loss of over £400,000 in wages.- He estimated the receipts for the current year at £25,830,000, and the expenditure at £25,822,000, the estimated surplus being £8000, which, though small, was very satisfactory, seeing that it was not proposed to introduce new taxation.
The public debt was now which was a decrease of £5,410,288 compared with the previous year.
