QUARANTINING OF SHIPS.
NEW REGULATIONS ISSUED.
PORT HEALTH OFFICER'S POWERS.
New instructions in regard to the medical examination and the quarantining of vessels from overseas have been received from Wellington by the district health officer. They provide that vessels from overseas having no infectious disease or suspicious cases on board, upon receivine pratique from the port health officer, may be allowed to berth at once without waiting for a period of 24 hours to elapse. The old regulation giving authority for overseas vessels to be detained in quarantine for 24 hours will remain in force where any suspicious cases are found by the port health officer on his examination; of the vessel after its arrival.
