ELLERSLIE TOWN BOARD.
The Ellerslie Town Board met on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs. S. Somerfieid, chairman; A. Ferguson, A. Hewson, D. A. Moore, Geo. Thorpe and J. Wooller. The board decided to be represented at the conference of local bodies to be held in the Mount Eden Borough Council Chambers on Friday for the purpose of discussing the Horahora seheme and the increased cost of street lighting. It was resolved to ask the City Council to consider the" matter of extending the electric lighting and power to Ellerslie, pointing out that as the district is compact the expense would be minimised and the service would be practically a continuation of the Remuera supply. Mr. Moore reported that he had attended the Manukau County Council meeting with Mr. Hewson, and the question of control of the Great South Road from the junction of Manukau Road to Papafcura was discussed. Mr. A. D. Bell, chairman of the County Council, had stated that the council had decided to ask the ratepayers' consent to a loan for an up-to-date roadmaking plant. Members of the board said the whole length of the Great South Road between _ the points mentioned should be treated in a uniform manner, and it was resolved to ask the County Council to call a meeting of all local bodies controlling the road, in order that a uniform scheme of improvements could be discussed and the Government approached for a straight-out grant or a subsidy on the £ for £ basis.
