BOUGH SEA ON WEST COAST
MANUKAU BAR UNWORKABLE^
STORMY CONDITIONS CONTINUE
The stormy weather which set in on Sunday morning continued yesterday, when the wind blew in heavy gusts from the south-west. Light showers fell at fre- ) quent intervals throughout the day and , evening. I The stormy weather was felt more on the west coast, owing to its exposed position. Yesterday morning the wind changed from west to south-west, and the ' change soon affected the Manukau Bar. By mid-day a heavy sea was running, making the bar unworkable. A report from the Manukau Heads last evening stated that the wind had moderated somewhat since 3 p.m. but the sea was etill very heavy, and if it did not become ! smoother there would be very little nope | of the Rarawa crossing inward from New 1 Plymouth this morning. ! The barometer, which had fallen to 29.50'n on Monday afternoon, commenced ! to rise at 6 a.m. yesterday, and last night reg'stered 29.70 in. The following weather forecast was issued by Mr. C. L. Wragge at 7.30 p.m. yesterday :—Still unsettled weather, with further rain_ squalls from between west-south-west and south will prevail, and much snow over the Southern highlands. Ere long conditions will become much finer with rising barometer. Very cold inland by night. Rough sea«. The rainfall at Pukekohe, as recorded by Mr. Stanley Sinclaire, last month totalled 4.165 in. compared with 2.665 ; in August. 1918, 4.95 in in August, 1917. and 3.lin in August. 1915. The heaviest fall last month was 1.65 in on Thursday August. 28. the total prior to that data heir- 1.96 in The fall at Pukekohe during Julv and August was heavier than in the city, a most unusual circumstance.
