SNOW IN MANY DISTRICTS.
HAWKE'S BAY AFFECTED. HEAVY .FALL REPORTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. FP.ESS ASSOCIATION".J DANNEVIRKE. Tuesday. Heavy hail and snow fell on Sunday and yesterday, and snow was falling steadily this morning. The fall in the high country is heavy, and mortality among lambs is likely to be severe if the wintry conditions continue. "WELLINGTON, Tuesday. After a fortnight of spring-like weather Wellington people received a surprise this morning to find the hi.ls near the e'ty thickly powdered with snow. Little rain fell in the town, and the severity of the sudden change was quite unexpected.
INVERCARGILL. Tuesday. Invercargill was under a white mantle this morning, and snow was still falling intermittently at noon. Reports from the country show that the fall was light, except at Kingston, where four inches was reported. It is now clearing, but the weather is bitterly cold.
EEEFTON. Tuesday
During the night three to four inchef of snow fell, and snow was sti;l falling this afternoon •on the hills surrounding Reefton.
