EAST COAST RAILWAY.
DELAY IN OPERATIONS. MANY MEN SEEKING WORK. UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASING [by telegraph.press association.] WHAKATANE, Tuesday. The county clerk states that he is receiving applications for employment at the rate of five daily, and the town is becoming full of unemployed. They are coming chiefly in response to an advertisement for 200 men on th» local railway work, where operations have been delayed pending surveys.
■ As the country roading loan has not yet been carried no work is available. Moreover, there ie no accommodation for the men, and this is resulting in distress.
