INSULTING LADIES IN PARK.
YOUTH'S SALUTORY PUNISHMENT
A youth named Ronald Christopher Kelly, aged 18, pleaded guilty, before Mr. I J. E. Wilson, S.M., at the" Police Court yesterday, to a charge that he wilfully and obscenely exposed himself on the Drive at One-tree Hill. Chief-Detective McMahon recommended that accused be detained for reformative treatment, stating that he acted in a grossly indecent manner before ! several ladies. He was not unknown to "the police. The offence was committed some weeks ago. but the accused was arrested by Detective De Norville and Constable Wales on Monday. The magistrate, in ordering the accused to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two years, said that women and children ought to be able to enjoy the. parks and recreation grounds without being annoyed by men of this sort.
MISCELLANEOUS CASES. Daniel Hogan pleaded not guilty to an indecent act in Grey Street, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. A charge of having assaulted one Frank Young by throwing a bottle at him. was preferred against John Percival, a Rarotongan, who pleaded not guilty, but said Young " went crook to him " and he retaliated. He was sorry he threw the bottle. The police said the assault was unprovoked. A fine of £1 with 12s costs was imposed. Elizabeth Martin, for drunkenness, was fined 10s and ordered to pay 17s 6d medi cal expenses, and was convicted and dis- [ charged for breaking her prohibition order.
