CHEAPER CABLE RATES.
WIRELESS COMPETITION. APPLICATION FOR LICENSE. , Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Reed. 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 28. Replying to an agitation by the press for cheaper cable rates, the managing director of the Amalgamated Wireless Company states that his company has applied for a Government license to establish a. wireless station in Australia, in conjunction with the Marconi Com pan to conduct a direct wireless service with Eng- I land. The company is prepared to handle all classes of messages at one-third less than the existing cable rates. The com- 1 pany hopes to make substantial reductions as traffic increases. j
