UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
QUEENSLAND STATE SCHEME. A. and N.Z. BRISBANE, Aug. 28. In the Queensland House of Assembly the Unemployed Workers Bill was introduced by Mr. E. G. Theodore, State Treasurer. It provides for insurance against unemployment, employers to provide the necessary fund, a levy of £2 • being made for each worker employed in 1919, subsequent payments being fixed by an unemployment council. This council will comprise a Minister as chairman and an Arbitration Court Judge, a director of labour, a workers' representative, and an employers' representative as members. The rates of payment to unemployed will be from 17s 6d in the south to 22s 6d in the north for single workers, and 25s to 35s for married men with children. During a strike strikers shall not b*> entitled to sustenance.
