UNREST AMONG MIMER S.
" STOP WORK" MEETINGS, LARGE MUSTEK AT HUNTLY. "GO SLOW" POLICY POSSIBLE. [BT TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HUNTLY. Thwsday. A stop-work meeting of the miners employed in the Taupiri Company's Extended and Eotowaro coal mines, and in the Pukemiro Company's mine, was held here today. The meeting was held as the result of a message received from Mr. J. O'Brien, the representative of the northern district on the Executive Council of the Miners' Federation, who attended the recent conference between the miners and the owners in Wellington. Considerable interest was manifested by the residents of Huntly in the meeting, particularly in view of, the fact that work in the Extended mine, which had been suspended for over a week, had been returned only on Wednesday. The meeting, which opened at 10 a-m. and concluded at 3.30 p.m., was attended by between 400 and 500 men. The business of the meeting was not openly disclosed, although it is stated that the report regarding the recent conference was discussed at considerable length. No report was supplied regarding the result of the meeting, but it is understood that it was decided that,a "go-slow" policy be adopted as from Monday next. The men will return to work to-morrow. About 90 per cent, of the miners employed in the mines in this district are engaged on contract work. MEETING IN THE SOUTH. PRIVATE AND STATE .MINES. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "...
